Blackbead is a member of the Mimosa family. It is now grown in the southern U.S., but was originally from tropical regions. They are large shrubs or small trees. Blackbead has a fruit with oil that can be processed and used in soaps and food. Some members of this genus have sharp spines at the bases of their leaves.
